Strindheim - Rosenborg 1-6
By Håvard Lindheim, 7 June 2004, 13:49
Rosenborg did not manage to outrun Strindheim before the break in the away match at Lerkendal. But thanks to a hat trick from Frode Johnsen in the second half, RBK could walk comfortably into the 4th round of the Cup.
The 2nd division team from East Trondheim feared they would not cope with a high number of spectators at their own field, Myra kunstgress, and chose in cooperation with RBK to move their home match to Lerkendal. Still, a mere 1300 spectators showed up.
Rosenborg were beforehand very keen on revenge for the embarassing 0-1 loss to Strindheim in the 3rd round in 2000, and met with their best team. Ørjan Berg and Azar Karadas were however out with small injuries.
RBK started hard. Harald Brattbakk shot in the crossbar, before Fredrik Winsnes after 13 minutes fired a setpiece ball beautifully into the corner of the goal.
However, the little brother struck back. On his own, the midfielder Petter Hermstad managed to secure 1-1 eight minutes later. Well done! Thankfully, RBK answered straight away, and Brattbakk regained the lead after putting a crosser from Ståle Stensaas from point blank. 2-1 was the result at half time.
In the second half, Frode Johnsen awoke. Three goals came quick: two headings and a tunnel at Strindheim keeper Mathias Aasvestad. During the ending minutes, Ståle Stensaas comcluded the result to a nice 6-1 with his left foot (!).
Hence, Rosenborg is ready for the 4th round of this year's National Championship. After having had three away games in a row in the Cup, the match at Wed June 23rd are to be played at home ground - unless the opponent to be drawn is one of the six Tippeliga sides that also has had only away games. If RBK gets a home match, it will cause problems. June 10th Lerkendal stadium is closed for the summer due to work with a new grass mat. It remains to be seen wether the Norwegian Football Assosciation NFF allows that for instance RBK - Molde is being played at the training field behind the stadium...
PS 1! Strindheim - Rosenborg was, together with Lofoten - Bodø/Glimt, moved because of the rescheduled Tippeliga match between RBK and Glimt, who will be played at the same time as the other Cup matches next Wednesday.
PS 2! Three ex-Rosenborgers played for Strindheim: Mads Kristian Skjærvold, Gisle Refseth and Tor Inge Våge.
