PSV: Watch out for these

The team of PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink might not have the great household names, but Dutch internationals should equal quality.
This summer, the Dutch silver medallionists sold their top scorer to Chelsea. Mateja Kezman made a whooping 31 goals in 29 league matches last season, and many felt that PSV spoiled their chances in the domestic league and the Champions League in favour of Pound Sterling.
"However, it has shown that the loss of Kezman hardly has been felt. Earlier, everything was focused on him, but now, the other players feel more free to go forward and score themselves," Sports Journalist Ramon Min at the Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad tells rbkweb.com.
The results confirm this statement. Hallvard Thoresen's old club has opened their season with excellence. With six comfortable wins in the seven first rounds, PSV leads the league - with one game less played than Feyenoord.
Great central midfield The two Dutch internationals Phillip Cocu and Mark van Bommel captains the central midfield of Wednesday's Champions League opponent.
"Phillip Cocu is the natural leader of the team. PSV and especially van Bommel has gained much from Cocu coming back from Barcelona this summer. Now, much pressure is taken off van Bommel, and he can concentrate on his own play. He has impressed through the past weeks, scored some nice goals, and been a good midfield engine," Min tells.
Brasilian panzer in defense Cocu wasn't PSV sole summer buy. The Brasilian middle defender Alex was bought from Santos, and has been a success in couple with Wilfried Bouma.
"He has already been nicked 'The Tank' here in the Netherlands, as he is very physical strong and does not compromise. He can be nasty in the duels, and hence 'deadly' for the opponents' forwards," Ramon Min warns.
Kezman's replacers do their job When Mateja Kezman was sold this summer, his forward colleague with the impressing name Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink had to take responsibility. And he has done. Six goals in seven matches is, to put it mildly, a good start.
"Vennegoor might not be as lethal as Kezman, but he works hard in every match, and hence creates problems for the opponent," the football expert states.
The Belgium Gerald Sibon, bought from Daniel Berg Hestad's Heerenveen this summer, jas coupled up with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink so far this season. In a pre-test this Saturday, away against ADO Den Haag, Sibon was rested - and the Swiss Johan Vonlanthen got a chance. He grabbed it, and scored both goals in the 2-0 win.
PS 1! PSV qualified for this year's Champions League by running over old RBK opponent Red Star with 7-3.
PS 2! Rosenborg has met PSV once earlier: in January, 2001, during the Maspalomas tournament. That ended with 2-0 to Rosenborg after two Christer George goals. Repeat it at Wednesday, Georgie?
