His name is Mauro Cantoro. A 28-year-old central, defensive midfielder with Argentine technique and style of play is music in Rosenborg's ears.

"We learned about this player a time ago, and have received some video cassettes. But it's to early to say weither he is something for us or not," Rosenborg coach Per Joar Hansen says to www.rosenborg.info.

Cantoro is a experienced footballer with six top level clubs on his CV. Already at the age of 18 in 1994 he won the Copa Libertadores, the South American variant of Champions League, with Buenos Aires top side Vélez Sársfield. In the rise of the new millennium he wanted to try something new, and moved east towards Europe. After a short spell at Ascoli in Italian Serie C, he joined Polish top club Wisla Krakow.

The Argentine has performed well at Wisla the last four seasons, helping the club securing two league- and two cup titles.

"He is however just one of many players we follow. In the moment we are looking at 15 different players, and Cantoro is still very "fresh" on our list. Players we buy, we have followed over some time, and so far haven't come in this specific case," Hansen says.

Nevertheless there were romours in Poland last week about a Rosenborg bid on Cantoro. This was however denied by both the player and his employer. Instead Wisla coach Werner Liczka has stated that he wants to keep his keyplayer.

Mauro Cantoro's contract with Wisla Krakow expires 31 December 2006.
