IFK Göteborg - Rosenborg 1-1
By Håvard Lindheim, 27 March 2006, 10:51
Rosenborg dominated in the friendly against Göteborg, but didn't manage to win the game.
Prior to the kickoff there was strong focus on Lars Hirschfeld, who had been appointed as Rosenborg's keeper of choice for the season. The Canadian couldn't quite live up to the trust. The 1-0 goal of former Stabæk winger Samuel Wowoah was more or less untakeable, but Hirschfeld had a handful of low-quality actions. For instance, twice he fumbled with the ball in his feet and served it to an opponent.
Still, RBK was the leading team on a deserted Nya Ullevi. The guests, coming directly from the training camp in Albufeira, Portugal, took charge before the break. RBK created much in front of the Swedes' goal, but a good shot hitting the post, from Jan Gunnar Solli, was the closest they came.
In the second half, "Blue-white" grabbed the lead, but thereafter, Steffen Iversen brought more punch to the Rosenborg attack. The substitute first kicked a pass from Daniel Braaten into the net, and had several other good chances. A close-range header did look promising.
But the end result was a draw for Rosenborg, who will meet Viking in Stavanger next Sunday for a final test.
PS! Roar Strand was back after his toe injury, but left the field early after sensing a beginning stretch in his leg.
