Rosenborg - Start 3-0
By Endre Bakken, 18 April 2006, 11:06

Daniel Braaten came in after a boring first half and immediately contributed with speed and fun play in the game at a sold out Lerkendal stadium.

HARD TO STOP: Daniel Braaten was a constant threat to the Start defence after he made his entrance. Here he is seen after having been tackled by Kristoffer Paulsen right on the edge of the 16 meter mark.

"Daniel comes in and plays really well on the left side. He runs extremely fast and uses his weight to pass by his opponents," Per Mathias Høgmo told Tv2 Zebra.

Braaten was surprisingly not allowed to start the game, despite his good play in the last match against Lillestrøm, and had to watch the first 45 minutes from the substitutes bench. There he witnessed his teammates effectively stopping all Start attacks, but he also saw that they struggled to create chances. One double chance to Mikael Dorsin where left back colleague Marius Johnsen stopped both the tries was as close as RBK came a goal in the first half.

After that it was all a Daniel Braaten show. The substitute only used four minutes to put Rosenborg in the lead. He passed the ball to Mikael Dorsin, got it back, passed Strømstad easily by using a tunnel dribble and passed the ball to Frode Johnsen, who easily scored.

Thereafter a relatively boring fifteen minutes passed until substitutes Braaten and Johnsen struck again. Braaten elegantly dribbled his way past Strømstad and passed the ball to Iversen by the corner flag. Iversen got plenty of time and made an exquisite pass to Johnsen who headed the ball into the net without any problems.

Then it was time for the third act in Daniel Braaten's show. This time he was tackled by Start's keeper when he was about to pass him and got a penalty kick. After having missed on 13 of the last 18 penalty kicks Iversen got the opportunity for the first time. He made no mistakes in his first RBK match at home since 1996 and shot the ball in the bottom right corner.

A well deserved victory to an efficient home team who climbed to the first place in the league - to stay there!

"It was a well played match and in some periods we were really good. But we got a few injuries which disturbed the team. But after a while we calmed down and got some nice goals," Høgmo concluded.

PS! Roar Strand and Miika Koppinen both had to leave the pitch after knee injuries. Strand will be out for a couple of weeks while Koppinen will be fit for fight in the coming league game against VIF.
