Viking - Rosenborg 1-3
By Endre Bakken, 2 July 2006, 22:31

Led by an eager Daniel Braaten RBK begun the fall season very well.

The Oslo-native was back again, seemingly unaffected by being out with thigh problems, and showed great tendencies in the friendly matches against Aalesund and Haugesund. Tonight he went even further and, from time to time, ridiculed the Viking defense.

He was especially good in the second half, when he only used three minutes to increase RBK's lead: Braaten took the ball down with the chest, sped up, bulldozed his way through the Viking defense and put the ball into the net. Excellent!

His efficiency got worse as the game progressed. Braaten had four more great chances, the two last ones being the biggest. Both times he got the ball alone with Viking goalie Iven Austbø. The first time his shot went too low, the second time he tried to lob the ball. Unfortunately it was mostly due to lack of skill, not luck, that hindered him from scoring.

"I was a bit sloppy and clumsy at times. I should have scored two times more - perhaps three. I feel bitter about only scoring one goal," Daniel Braaten told rbk.no.

Before the break both teams were lethal: the three first chances all resulted in a goal. Frode Johnsen scored the first after recieving the ball on the penalty mark after bad defending by Jørgen Tengesdal.

After that Vidar Riseth forgot to follow his player, which allowed Peter Ijeh to put in an equalizer on a great heading. RBK went straight back to attacking and got another goal immediately: Christer Basma sent a crossball to a Johnsen, who diveheaded the ball behind the keeper.

After the break Braaten excelled for RBK, while substitute Toni Nhleko missed on several chances for Viking. RBK got one goal, but scored two, the second one annulled: After one hour Frode Johnsen was tackled by keeper Austbø, but he had already passed the ball to Roar Strand, who shot it in the upper corner. Ref Tommy Skjerven blew the whistle too early, and gave a penalty when he should have let the game continue due to Rosenborg having the advantage. Instead Mikael Dorsin got to try his abilities from the penalty mark, but the shot was not good, so Austbø easily saved it.

Nevertheless winning again sure felt good! At the same time the way up to the top is not so long due to Brann's 0-4 loss at Hamar.
