Viking - Rosenborg 1-3
By Håvard Lindheim, 21 August 2006, 09:26

RBK struggles their way through the Cup. The final seems to be reachable!

Viking was the leading team in the first half, and created many good chances. Especially the central defense, where Basma and Koppinen have played little together, were under constant pressure.

"We never really entered this match. Viking were a lot more aggressive than us. We lost duels all over the pitch, moved way too little, and lost the ball almost every time we got it," un-pleased assistant coach Trond Henriksen told Norwegian broadcaster TV2.

Still, Rosenborg went to half time with a lead: RBK re-won the ball after a failed corner kick, and Jan Gunnar Solli made a pass into the box. Steffen Iversen and Mikael Dorsin fought like lions, and the last named managed to turn and hit the net.

The second half was marked by several changes in the RBK team as Roar Strand, and then Vidar Riseth, had to throw in the towel after several small incidents. The guests from Trondheim were still lethally efficient, however, and within fifteen minutes they had broken what was left of the morale in the Viking team.

Øyvind Storflor doubled the Rosenborg lead in an early stage, when being played through on the left by Riseth, cut in and bent the ball in by the far post.

Then, Lars Hirschfeld was tricked by the bounce on a Søren Berg shot. The ball hit the ground, bounced strangely over the RBK goalkeeper, into the post, and straight through ex-RBK player Alexander Ødegaard, who made an easy score. Luckily, RBK struck back within a minute, when a distance shot from Alexander Tettey hit Ragnvald Soma's leg, changed direction, and fooled Viking keeper Mathias Asper.

The rest of the match was just a transportation leg for Rosenborg, who now will face Sandefjor at home on Lerkendal in the semi final.

"1-0 at half time was lucky, but in the second half we were much more diciplined. We are in the zone now, and that shows in the efficiency," Knut Tørum stated.

PS! Alexander Tettey have one match suspension in the cup after two yellow cards.
