The championship was just about secured last weekend in Bergen, but RBK were determined to recieve the trophy and medals home at Lerkendal. To achieve that they had to get at least a draw against relegation candidates Viking.
After the first half the victory celebration seemed to be in danger. Marek Sapara gave RBK an early lead with a free kick from the left flank which fooled everybody. But quickly afterwards Søren Berg scored the equalizing goal. After that Viking took over control of the game, whilst RBK were trailing after.
"We were somewhat lucky that Viking didn't score more goals than they did," Knut Tørum admitted.
After the break Rosenborg got back into the game and warmed the hearts of the crowd with, at times, quality football in the snowy weather.
"We are very fit and we know that as the second half progresses opportunities will arise, which we are determined to take advantage of. We got what we wanted out of the second half," Tørum thought.
Steffen Iversen gave the lead back to RBK with a solid finish in the top corner of the net from 15 meters. After That Roar Strand made it 3-1, when Miika Koppinen prevented goalkeeper Mattias Asper from throwing the ball - a goal which should have been disallowed.
Substitute Daniel Braaten scored the last goal in overtime, when he in a classy manner sent a shot, which hit the post and went in on the opposite side, with his back halfway turned towards the goal.
"This is tremendous. It is hard to compare championships, but this is probably one of the greatest in my opinion," smiled Roar Strand, who holds the world record with his 14 championships.
