Høgmo steps down
By Thomas Myren, 31 October 2006, 20:27

Per-Mathias Høgmo quits, and puts Knut Tørum in charge as head coach.

"There has been a long process, where I have had good time to think. Rune Bratseth and I had a very good talk. If I had wanted to continue, I would have gotten full backing. If not, we should fix that too. After talking to my family, I decided to round off," Høgmo tells RBK-TV.

The 46-year-old was hired in August last year, and met the short-term objectives with saving the place in the premier division and qualifying to the Champions League. He also started important processes like hiring a talent scout, extending the coaching staff and etablishing a medical lab. At the same time he tidied up in the first team squad.

The beginning of this season was bad, and in August and September Høgmo was on a sick leave due to mental exhaustion. During his leave Knut Tørum led the team to eight consecutive wins, which formed the basis for the surprising league championship. Høgmo therefore let his assistant coach be in charge in the remaining games.

This weekend he decided to quit, and instead try some completely other profession after a life as football player and coach.

"I wish to try a new path. The choices were either to continue as coach or work with organisation and leadership. I have recieved a lot of interesting inquires the last time," Per-Mathias Høgmo explains.

He now moves back to Moss together with his family.

"Temp" Tørum has ten wins in eleven league matches, and will be appointed the vacant post.

"The contract will be signed on Monday. After this autumn, it would have been unkind of me rejecting this job," Knut Tørum tells TV-adressa.

He will be the 6th Rosenborg coach since 2002.
