Fredrikstad - Rosenborg 1-1
By Endre Bakken, 15 September 2008, 19:03

RBK weren't able to keep up the good play until the end, and lost two vital points in the hunt for a medal.

"We have had many games like this. We vary greatly during the game, and that is why we are in the position we are in," Erik Hamrén told TV2.

Newly bought Anthony Annan got a place in the starting eleven in favour of Roar Strand. Alexander Tettey was placed to the left, and got to two chances early in: he headed over the goal first, and should have scored later, when he got alone with Jan Tore Ophaug and missed from a good position.

Rosenborg continued outplaying Fredrikstad, and a lob from Steffen Iversen was saved on the line by Raio Piiroja after a well executed attack.

Despite owning the game RBK suffered from many counterattacks after losing the ball. A situation like that created drama right before half time: Kris Stadsgaard got his heel on a pass that ended up with Rune Jarstein, who took the ball in his hands. Referee Kjetil Sælen mistakenly gave FFK an indirect free-kick.

The situation became complicated, and Jarstein got a yellow card for rushing out before the free-kick was taken. Raymond Kvisvik followed up with a hopeless free kick, and was tackled by Jarstein. Kvisvik, lying down, kicked Jarstein twice and was sent off the pitch.

"He kicked me hard in the chest twice. Of course it was a red card!," Rune Jarstein said.

Three minutes were added to the half, and in the last second RBK scored: Mikael Dorsin sent a pass to Didier Konan, who skillfully scored with his toe.

The second half started with Jarstein injuring his right leg when he collided with a teammate. Despite that, he chose to continue. That turned out to be fatal.

After the break RBK had trouble creating chances although they got several set-pieces. Ten man strong Fredrikstad got a grip on the game.

Fifteen minutes before the end the equalizer came: Fernando Wallace used his left foot to steer the ball into the left corner of the goal. Due to his injury, Jarstein was unable to leap, and fell down instead of being able to stretch himself. So the shot went in.

Had ref. Sælen followed the rulebook the goal should have been annulled: Annan obstructed Ardian Gashi, and FFK should only have gotten an indirect free-kick!

The frustration got the best of the away team, and both Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Stadsgaard got unneccessary yellow cards for protesting. Luckily, FFK seemed happy with 1-1, and the match died out.

"The first half was really good, but we should have scored more goals and decided the game. In the second half we were too bad in periods. It's like we were ten against ten," Hamrén explained.

RBK is still seven points behind Fredrikstad and Tromsø on second and third.
