Rosenborg - Bodø/Glimt 1-3
By Tore Aune Fjellstad, 9 November 2008, 15:43

The Tippeliga drew to a disappointing close for Rosenborg with a humiliating
defeat on home pitch.

"The only consolation has to be that, even had we beaten Bodø/Glimt, we would have lost the bronze anyway. In the end, we were left with prospects of fourth or fifth place", Erik Hoftun admits to rbkweb.no

"Were the players demoralised after Tromsø's early goal in the match against Stabæk?"

"No, I don't think so."

"But the players must have known that the bronze was slipping out of reach?"

"You'd have to ask the players, but I don't think it was a decisive factor for the outcome", Hoftun says.

At any rate, Rosenborg opened the match in good form, and an energetic Roar Strand picked up where he left off at half time in the last match against Lillestrøm. A quarter of an hour into the first half he should possibly have been awarded a penalty when he was run down from behind.

Instead he made himself the centre of attention again five minutes later: a Mikael Lustig cross was deflected by Didier Konan towards the edge of the six-yard box, where the veteran connected with a close range header that flew into the back of the net.

Bodø/Glimt equalised immediately: a poorly timed pass from Konan was snapped up, Trond Olsen scoring with a lethal finish after outsmarting and outrunning Andreas Nordvik.

Rosenborg then dominated possession, but rhythm and timing was not on their side in the offensive play as a dull first half drew to a close. At this point, the bronze medal never really seemed a possibility, and the home side looked less and less inspired.

The second half saw both sides take a more physical approach: tough duels and freekicks galore, with neither side gaining momentum until Rosenborg attempted a final offensive. This offensive had the adverse effect the home side expected, as Bodø/Glimt found themselves with the necessary space for numerous counterattacks.

Trond Olsen found himself at the end of a long pass, and again outsmarted Nordvik, making his way past Rune Jarstein and rolling the ball into an empty net. Only minutes later, Olsen claimed his hat-trick on a freekick that somehow slipped straight between Jarstein's gloves, and Bodø/Glimt could celebrate their first league victory against RBK since 1979(!).

"We emerge from the closing three matches in the league with a single point. This shows that, apparently, we don't possess the necessary qualities to fight for a medal," Erik Hamrén said after Glimt captured fourth place in the league, three points ahead of fifth-placed Rosenborg.

PS! Vadim Demidov was suspended for yellow cards, while Kris Stadsgaard and Anthony Annan were both injured for the match.
PPS! Christer Basma came in ten minutes from the end to play the 350th and last Tippeliga match of his career.
