Start - Rosenborg 1-2
By Endre Bakken, 8 April 2009, 22:37

Led by Steffen Iversen RBK got revenge and turned the game around after an early red card.

"Winning with only ten men is impressive. I feel we did an effing good job. In the second half we displayed great fortitude, in stark contrast to the first half where we were too cowardly. The players did a good job," Erik Hamrén said boastingly to NRK.

Vadim Demidov created the first great chance when he headed a short corner from Marek Sapara into the goalpost after seven minutes. Then everything went downhill.

Mikael Lustig got a yellow card after having entered the pitch (after a head injury) without having gotten a signal from the referee, and was told to hit the showers later when he used his hand on a Start-corner. Alexander Lund Hansen was close to saving the penalty from Geir Ludvig Fevang, but was a few centimetres short.

Start took over the game, and substitute goalie "Lunna" had two great saves: Fevang shot from a near-dead angle and then Bernt Hulsker attempted a goal following a pass from Sapara(!). The home team's next great chance came into overtime, when Cristian Bolaños shot a free kick into the bar.

"We were allright the first 25 minutes, but after the expulsion we sucked. We made plenty of mistakes and seemed completely stressed out. We had to fix that and become more compact in our defensive play," Trond Henriksen explained.

Alexander Tettey had to play right back after the break, but it turned out to be smarter placing Roar Strand in that position and pushing Per Ciljan Skjelbred out to the left. Up to extra time Start created nothing but a few long shots, which Lund Hansen caught without problems.

After that Rosenborg struggled with creating chances. The solution was putting Iversen on the pitch who had been put on the bench in favor of Rade Prica.

Three minutes afterwards Iversen had played one-two's with his competitor Prica, who shot the ball into Fevang and then the net by the nearest goalpost. The Swede's first goal for RBK!

Start got nervous while Rosenborg kept up their intensity. Iversen was at it again and the leading goal followed: He forwarded a pass to Tettey, who now was alone with Kenneth Høie. Tettey showed off finishing skills he has lacked earlier, and shot the ball through the Start goalie's legs.

"We were one player less, but agreed to go for it and play a prudent defensive game and attempt counter attacks. In the end we made it, and that felt extremely good," Tettey concluded.

PS! Rune Jarstein (thigh), Mikael Dorsin (thigh), Kris Stadsgaard (knee), Espen Johnsen (knee) and Michael Jamtfall (knee) were all injured.
PPS! This was the first RBK-match NRK has showed since September 2005.
