Molde - Rosenborg 5-0
By Endre Bakken, 11 August 2009, 08:53

MOLDE (rosenborg.info): "We started the match well, and created some good chances to score. Then they get 1-0, and you know how goals change games. I still think we did much right in the first half, so it felt like we could turn this around," Erik Hamrén said.

Molde took the lead when Makhtar Thioune sent the ball past Mikael Dorsin, who was outrunned by Mame Biram Diouf. The Senegali who just signed for Manchester United cooly rolled the ball in by the furthermost post.

The home team had dangerous counterattacks and were good at attacking at breakneck speed using the flanks. Rosenborg were able to keep up, but created no opportunities to score. Rade Prica had a good long shot while Dorsin equalized when recieved a heel pass from Steffen Iversen, but the shot was blocked by Christian Steen.

RBK started the second half well, and Marek Sapara got a penalty after 48 minutes da when he was fouled by goalie Knut Dørum Lillebakk. Iversen's seemingly well-placed shot went in the bar.

"If we had gotten a goal there, we would have regained some energy. But then we miss. Right after that they score a second goal, and we are drained," Kris Stadsgaard concluded.

Daniel Berg Hestad was the goalscorer. Minutes later Magne Hoset followed up with a shot on the empty goal from 40 meters, making the most of a bad goalkick from Rune Jarstein.

The situation did not improve when Anthony Annan got his second yellow card after fouling Thioune. His teammate Per Ciljan Skjelbred was also good to Molde- he gave Pape Pate Diouf the ball on the 16 meter mark.

A shot in the top corner from José Mota ended the embarrasing loss, which is the greatest in cup since 1958.

"On the positive side, this wasn't a league game. Winning that is the most important," Stadsgaard explained.
