The left back has signed a two-year deal with New York Red Bulls.
"I'm very pleased with this option, and I think it's the best for my future as I don't think I would have gotten much time on the pitch for Rosenborg," Miller told the club's official website.
The transfer fee is undisclosed for the player, who Rosenborg paid Bodø/Glimt 5.5 million NOK for two years ago.
The Costa Rican became a regular in the team, but then had to undergo a knee surgery in August 2008. Meanwhile Mikael Dorsin was brought back from Cluj, and Miller became the second choice.
A loan to Swedish Örgyte this autumn was however a success, and Miller made comeback on the national team after being left out since 2005.
