They are training with RBK to maintain fitness yes. And Henriksen will be HamrÃ©n's assistant.

"The previous coaches maybe gave in a bit too easy when people demanded that they used the same playing style as Nils Arne Eggen. If we lost a couple of games, the fuss about a new playing style was back at once. HamrÃ©n comes from the outside and has not followed Norwegian football as close as others. Just before the clash with Bruges, UEFA.com dedicated an article to the revival of our beloved Rosenborg. The article is basically one long praise to Erik Hamren Tommel'n opp!

After Rosenborg BK lost four of their first six Tippeligaen games this term, few expected them to be challenging for European honours come the season's end. However, they failed to credit the rejuvenating influence of coach Erik HamrÃ©n.

HamrÃ©n would have been forgiven for questioning his career choice when he arrived at the Lerkendal Stadium on 1 June. The 51-year-old Swede had just guided Aalborg BK to a surprise Danish title success when he found himself in charge of a Rosenborg side in some disarray, languishing tenth in the 14-team Tippeligaen. Yet what a difference three and a half months make. With a new training regime, a fresh formation and a tweak to certain players' positions, Rosenborg are a side reborn. With two matches to go in the Norwegian league campaign, they have climbed to a season high of fourth place, and they also open their UEFA Cup group-stage fixtures at home to Club Brugge KV on Thursday.

'Different outlook'
"The change of coach really helped us," said midfielder Alexander Tettey. "He arrived with a totally different outlook on football and training, helped us with our diet and how to handle the media. Little things that add up and have helped us perform better on the pitch." The renaissance has hardly been pain-free, however. As HamrÃ©n switched from the tried and trusted 4-3-3 system to a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond, Rosenborg struggled initially. They were knocked out of the Norwegian Cup by second-tier Kristiansund BK and endured a chastening 4-0 defeat at TromsÃ¸ IL in August.

European ambitions
Two months later, though, Rosenborg are a point behind third-placed TromsÃ¸ after a run of seven wins in nine games in all competitions â€“ which sequence has also taken them into the UEFA Cup group stage. There they will meet Club Brugge, AS Saint-Etienne, Valencia CF and FC KÃ¸benhavn, with the Valencia tie reviving fond memories as the Trondheim club beat the Spanish giants twice in last term's UEFA Champions League group stage. "It won't be easy," said sporting director Erik Hoftun, "but Rosenborg have a habit of lifting themselves for European matches."

Sapara improvement
They must also raise themselves for their last two Tippeligaen fixtures, with second spot still a possibility â€“ a considerable achievement given Rosenborg's early-season travails. The improvement is exemplified by Marek Sapara. The Slovakia midfielder was central to the side's 2006 championship triumph but had failed subsequently to recapture that form. Until now. Sapara is blossoming in a new role behind the strikers, while the astute signing of Anthony Annan has given the midfield added steel. So too, it seems, has the appointment of HamrÃ©n.

As I said in another topic, I believe we would be ahead of Stabaek now if Hamren were in charge since the start of the season. The improvements since he took over are huge. Maybe we should have just offered Aalborg a big sum of money in order to release him and let him come to Norway prior to the start of the Tippeligaen.

I think it was important that HamrÃ©n was allowed to lead Aalborg to the title in Denmark first. If he had come before that it would have been harder for him to get things done his way, and the media would have been more agressive towards him if the result's hadn't been that good. The reason the media wasn't that agressive after the loss against TromsÃ¸ and StabÃ¦k was mainly that Rosenborg had been worse at the spring.

HamrÃ©n is home in Gothenburg due to illness in his family.

Henriksen led the team against Lyn and probably also will against GjÃ¸vik in the cup.

According to Swedish daily Aftonbladet Hans Backe and Erik HamrÃ©n are two hottest prospects to replace Lars LagerbÃ¤ck as Sweden boss.

This happens while HamrÃ©n and Rosenborg still have not agreed on extending his contract expiring 31/12/2010.

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has ruled himself out of the running to become Sweden coach, the Swedish Football Association has announced.

"We've had good discussions but there's no possibility of him taking charge of the national team now," said Lars-Ake Lagrell, president of the Swedish FA.

I still hope Hans Backe is their 2nd choice, but HamrÃ©n has nevertheless become a more likely option...

HamrÃ©n's statements in media the last weeks let it shine through that he will accept if he is offered the job.

A bit worrying but I'm not sure it will happen. Hamren has proven he can manage at the top domestically with gold in both DK and Norge. International management is slightly different, less hands on for sure and obviously bigger 'names' to coach.

We'll see, maybe Sweden mgiht surprise everyone with a foreign coach?

I'm glad to see that Hamren will not leave. I hope that Erik and RBK are on good terms and handled this issue professionally.

Besides, there's no hurry in taking over Sweden now, I'd wait to see if the job is open for the 2014 qualifying rounds to take place in a couple years. In the mean time, Erik can win a couple more championships with RBK and his stock will only get higher for the Sweden head job.

Surely if Sweden wanted him they could pay compensation?

We don't want to lose Hamren but if they offered a lot of money, surely that would help the economy of the club?

Good news though, if Hamren wants to stay and lead RBK into the Champions League next season it could be the start of another golden era.

Well, Hamren was Swedes third choice.

Hamren may move up the latter if he wins a couple more league titles and advances into the group stages of CL.

Again, no worries to move to the NT job until the team is in qualifying for WC2014 anyway.

Well, in Europe it is, because you have the Euro tournament in between the World Cups. It's sure that if they hire someone now that take them to Euro 2012, they would keep that person also for WC2014 qualifiers.

HamrÃ©n might have been the third choice in the beginning, but the last week he has been a clear first choice. And he still is, after he yesterday told media he was still hoping for the job.

Every soccer confederation has their own tourney in between World Cups, so it's no different in Europe than anywhere else.

Hamren was Sweden's third choice. We can dress it up any way we like, but if Sweden could've hired Sven or Hans they would have before interviewing Erik. Now they will have their eyes set on their fourth choice, and that hiring may not make it for both the Euros and WCQ.
