Hoping somebody out there can help me!

We have a game against Vaalarenga on the 26 th Febuary which could be in some doubt because of adverse weather conditions in Oslo at that time of year. Rosenborgs stadium has been selected as an alternative venue.
How far is it from Trondheim airport to the stadium?
My flight, if I was to come on the day of the match, would arrive at 16.40 from Copenhagen, the match if it was played in Oslo was to have been a 17.30 kick off, if the same kick off time was applicable would I have any chance of reaching the stadium in time.

Thanks in anticipation! Smile

First I just have to say that I think Newcastle United FC act foolish in this case!

I haven't ever heard anything like this before! The latest news here in Norway, is that you aren't satisfied with Ullevaal Stadium (Oslo) nor the reserve arena Lerkendal Stadium (Trondheim), and that you want to move the game to Middlesbrough. I can't believe that this is true!

To me it seems like Newcastle are very afraid of losing the away game, and then maybe become in danger of being knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

Ullevaal Stadium will become ready to the match - there are only some years since Chelsea met VÃ¥lerenga in the quarter finals of the Cupwinners' Cup, and then there weren't any problems. Rosenborg will meet Benfica (Portugal) in the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup, and the Portugees haven't said anything about any reserve arena, or moving the game to another location, even though the Norwegian winter will be a lot more unfamiliar to them then to you Englishmen!

I'm 99,99% certain that the VÃ¥lerenga - Newcastle game will be played in Oslo. You really don't have to worry!

I think you're arriving far to late! If you're lucky, you reach the 2nd half! The game is sceduled to 17.00 CET, just 20 minutes after you land at Oslo Airport Gardermoen. The trip from the airport to Oslo downtown takes aprox. 30 minutes, and then you have to take the underground (bus, taxi etc.) up to the stadium - 10-15 minutes!

...the answer on your question: Trondheim Airport Værnes is located 35 km east for the city - 30 minutes with bus/taxi/car. The cheapest way of travelling from Oslo to Trondheim by plain, is the low-fair airline Norwegian Air Shuttle. Fares from 285 NOK (£25).

Don,t get me wrong, I tend to agree that Newcastle haven,t came out of this smelling of roses, although I have to say it,s my opinion that uefa are infact the more guilty for not issueing a warning to people organizing travel that the game COULD be in doubt because of adverse weather conditions.
If the game were to go ahead in Oslo I would have no problems as my flight would arrive at lunchtime direct from Zurich (I work in Switzerland) however if it was known in advance that the game was to be played in Rosenborg,s stadium then for me the cheapest way to get there would be via Copenhagen.
Do you think if the game were to be played in Trondheim it would also have a 17.00 kick off?

Thanks for your help!

As I know, the reason for the early kick off is that Channel 4 (or 5) in England want that; Norwegian NRK TV want to have kick off 19.30 CET, but Vålerenga let the Englishmen decide, since they are paying aprox. £200,000 for the TV rights for the game.

In other words; I think kick off in Trondheim also will be 17.00.

I don't think you have anything to worry about... VÃ¥lerenga is paying 3000 kroners each day, so the heat will be on, on the pitch on Ullevaal, from now to when the game is played!!

cheers to you both for your help, its a pity that the politics of both uefa and the clubs involved have to get in the way of whats important to us all, ie watching a game of football!
Incidently would you both as supporters of Rosenborg wish to see Vaalarenga win because they,re Norwegian or are you indifferent?

Of course it could be fun to have maybe 2 norwegian teams to go through in the uefa cup.. Bot..nahh..don't like VÃ¥lerenga.. And they really don't believe they can beat Newcastle! They just wanted to face a 'big' team so they could get some money out of it...since they are in some major echonamical problems..
And VÃ¥lerenga even struggled to keep their place in the norwegian league..Which Rosenborg won many matches before the league were even over!!

No, I don't think you'll se that many people from Trondheim on a VÃ¥lerenga - Newcastle game here in the city, if the Ullevaal pitch somehow becomes a disaster. The (only) people attending the game will be:

- VÃ¥lerenga fans living in Trondheim - students at the University
- VÃ¥lerenga fans travelling from Oslo
- Norwegian, anglofile Newcastle fans - both from Trondheim and the rest of the country
- Newcastle fans travelling from England (and Switzerland Razz)

Some people say this: "People in Trondheim aren't interested in football, they're just interested in Rosenborg." In other words: The normal guy (the majority of the 20,000 in the stadium) will just go to the Rosenborg - Benfica game the week after.

And: The first leg game between us and the Portugees are being played later in the evening. To see that game on TV will be the priority for the citizens of Trondheim.

But as said before: VÃ¥lerenga - Rosenborg will be played in Oslo! 8)

PS! You write VÃ¥lerenga with "aa" instead of just Valerenga like all other foreigners - at last one who understands that "Ã¥" is equal to "aa"! I'm impressed! Wink

Again thanks to you both for your help, it would seem you're both in the same mind as I am with regards to other football clubs in your league, to me there is only one club in England.... Newcastle! This sentiment applies especially to Man Utd, I'm quite happy to see them get beat whoever they happen to be playing, although in fairness this is probably down to the fact their success has coincided with the increased television coverage by Sky Sports and there is now more hype than ever surrounding them.
I was in the south of France during the World Cup in 98 and met quite a few Norwegians following the national team, had some good drinking sessions with them, you certainly know how to enjoy yourselves, probably helped mind by the fact that the beer in France is a lot cheaper than what I'm hearing you're used to paying in Norway!
Best of luck against Benfica, you never know our paths may yet cross!

Of course he's too late, but the trip from the airport to Oslo S (downtown) takes 20 minutes, not 30.
