I have had this thought too. I don't really know. I find it weird, since as you say they are really a part of Asia?

too many arabic teams who won't play against us.
not to mention that though we are located in asia, we are a very western society... |

Israel was originally part of the Asian association (AFC), but after pressure from the Arab countries (who refused to play against Israel), they were excluded in 1976. In the years that followed, Israel had to play World Championship qualifying matches in the Oceania group, before getting accepted as a member of the UEFA in 1991.

FEW INfo. about israel:
ASIA CUP: 1956,1960 :RUNNER-UP(2)
1964:WINNER!
1967: AFTER "6 DAYS " WAR we ECXLUDED from asia.
till 1992( above..) the local team didn't play european cham./cup.
we used to play only with the national team in oceania( with new-zealad & australia)
we play in E.C CLUBS since 93
BUT!! all of this is politic!
We happy to play in europe (tell me about someone who want to visit iran,ksa or iraq)

you'd think it would be the arab countries who'd be banned (by AFC) for refusing to play, but I guess it doesn't work like that down there...

If we didn't mix up football with politics in the first place, israelic teams wouldn't played in UEFA-competitions at all!
So why wouldn't your neighbours play against you? Is it because you're so good? Or are they afraid what might happen if they beats you?
I agree, leave the politics beside and play football like Iraq, they just stun Portugal with a 4-2 victory in the Olympics...
