Anthony Annan is not in doubt for the Africa Cup of Nations according to Milovan Rajevac despite sitting out Tuesday's training session in Nelspruit.

(...)

"He has some slight pain and is not training with full intensity but he will be okay. He is recovering well and our hope is that he will be 100% ready."

Anthony Annan has also been a major injury doubt having done very little training with the squad since they arrived here.

Rajevac said: “Annan came with a hamstring injury which we knew about and he is recovering well with our special program. We hope he is going to be ready for the competition.”

Ghana's medical team are also convinced the Rosenbord player who has made the defensive midfield holding role his own will be in good health for the tournament.

Anthony Annan is hopeful he will make the cut for Ghana's opening game against Togo after barely training since the side's arrival in Nelspruit.

"I am feeling better and better each day and I am very confident I will be good to play," he told kickoffGhana.com.

Another pivotal member of the World Cup qualifiers' squad, Rosenborg midfielder Anthony Annan, is definitely unavailable having picked up a left knee injury.

"Annan won't be ready for Friday and Essien doesn't join us until tomorrow morning," Ghana's Serb coach Milovan Rajevac said on Tuesday in Cabinda.

The anchorman's hamstring injury that sidelined him during a training camp in South Africa resurfaced in Angola last Saturday.

"It's frustrating for me as a player because you really want to go out there and help your national team. I just hope I sit out for only one game", Annan said.

Ghanaian international midfielder Anthony Annan is back on his feet and is a possible starter against Burkina Faso in the African Nations Cup on Tuesday, officials at the Ghana camp in Angola have confirmed.

I'd rather Annan not play to be honest. Hamstring injuries are nagging and have a tendency to return if not properly healed.

RBK begins training soon and I'd like to have Annan rested and ready to go for the start of the season. Annan will get a chance to represent his country this Summer.

Annan, who plays his club football in Norway with Rosenborg, has had to watch Ghana's progress to the last four from the sidelines, missing the 3-1 loss to Ivory Coast, and the 1-0 wins over Burkina Faso and Angola.

Serb coach Milovan Rajevic, speaking at the team hotel in downtown Luanda on Tuesday, confirmed:

“Anthony is recovering well and we can use him for the semi-final."

Well, Anthony got to play some significant time for the Final, a good start and play a quick dead ball to create a good chance for Ghana.

In the end though, Egypt's late game attack outplayed the tired Ghana defense.

Congrats to Egypt and look forward to having Annan back.

Still unclear whether he can play against Odense on Thursday, but I doubt he will.

Annan, who plays for giants Rosenborg, was consistently barracked by Aalesund striker Tor Hogne Aarøy during Monday night’s league game which resulted in a scuffle on the blind side of the match official.

There were some exchanges which Aaroy claimed he was bitten three times by the Ghanaian but Annan insists he didn’t bite the player but his shirt lodged in his mouth accidentally.

Forgot to include this paragraph:

"Annan, known for his cool demeanour, said the player tried to infuriate him since the start of the game but he snapped when the striker called him a “fucking African” which infuriated."

The news are spreading:

Soccernet
Rosenborg midfielder Anthony Annan tried to nibble and fondle an opponent into submission this week following a war of words that descended into a bizarre exploration of Aalesund striker Tor Hogne Aaroy's anatomy.

The duo were involved in a few feisty exchanges during a 1-1 draw in the Norwegian Tippeligaen with Aaroy claiming he was bitten three times by Ghanaian international Annan when the referee wasn't looking. "He nibbled my chest," a slightly embarrassed Aaroy revealed.

Irish Independent
Annan himself denied the biting allegations and claimed that his opponent's shirt had simply lodged in his mouth.

Tony is one of 30 in Ghana's preliminary World Cup squad Tommel'n opp!

"I'm very happy to be among the 30 players the coach has chosen to start the campaign. Some players are to be taken out of the squad, so I'm gonna work hard to make it into the final 23-man squad to South Africa," Annan told rosenboirg.info.

Ghana will enter the World Cup without their talisman. Midfielder Michael Essien has been out for five months with a knee injury and leaves a gaping hole in the centre of the park for the Black Stars. But it's a hole that Rosenborg's Anthony Annan filled admirably at the Africa Cup of Nations and there's no reason to assume he won't do the same in South Africa.

He was pretty consistent in the Latvia game.

Yes I did. I watched that match on ATDHE.net

Nothing wildly exciting actually until near the end of the game when the Latvian keeper messed up and allowed the late game winner. It was a very stoppable shot.

Annan was pretty good though. His distribution was good and like I said he was consistent. I think he'll have a good cup.

Another solid outing for Annan in Ghana's first group match at the World Cup. Serbia was unlucky not to score on a couple of their chances, but Ghana did what they needed to after going up a man.

Annan said they are keen on moving to the quarter finals of the competition and will not leave any stone unturned to reach that target. He reckoned that, the attacking machinery of the team has not been sharp but said "the USA game will be different, because we are at the knock out stages and we need goals to stay in the competition".

"It is not our intention to go to the field and wait for penalty before we score. We have been doing our best to score in the run of play, but we have not been successful. It is one area we have to work on, before we go into the next game."
