Hi there, i'm Oren, and my team - Maccabi Haifa has been drawn agaist yours (if you qualify).
What can you tell about your team apart from being 8 years in a row in the CL, and winning ur league forever?
What did u do in europe last season? How do see you odds this year? |

Last season we failed to qualify for CL. Sniff. We happened to meet Deportivo la Coruña in the last qualifying round, and they were too strong - we did 0-0 at home but lost 0-1 in the away leg.
After that, we went into the UEFA cup, where we did knock out Red Star of Serbia (0-0 at home, 0-1 away). Then we were thrown against SL Benfica of Portugal. We lost 0-1 in Lissabon after ahorrible performance from our side; we won 2-1 at home, and should have won more, but the Portuguese turned out to be the most chicken and unsportsmanlike team that ever had played at our home ground Lerkendal. So, 2-2 combined, but they advanced on away goals.
This year we have had a bad start in the league, perhaps much due to the fact that our shape was at its peak when we beat Benfica this winter (our league starts in April). We're back in the league lead now but still need to improve our gameplay.
Two days ago we played the home leg of the 2nd round, against FC Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova. A horrible show by our lads resulted in a narrow 2-1 win. Still, if we manage not to lose next Wednesday we're through and we'll meet you. I deem the chance to be maybe 70 % in our favour.
Should we meet you I think we have an 80 % chance of winning at home and a further 15 % to get a drawn result; the away game I won't venture to guess as I haven't seen you in action for a while. |

(I moved this topic to the English forum.)
I think Rosenborg will go through to the 3rd qualifying round to the Champions League; I don't think RBK will lose in Moldova in the return game against Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday.
Rosenborg's director of sports, Rune Bratseth, says this about the draw of Maccabi Haifa:
"We shall have a good chance (of going through to the group stage). But first we have to get to the 3rd qualifying round, so it is not so much to comment before we have knocked Sheriff out," Bratseth says.
This time Rosenborg was seeded in the draw, and therefore the opponent is weaker than last year; Deportivo La Coruña.
"It's no doubt a difference between Deportivo and Maccabi Haifa," Bratseth concludes. |

thx for that you sound a very good outfit in europe.
As for Maccabi haifa, we are the biggest club in Israel in the last 20 years. We are the most succesful in europe as well.
our past record since join uefa in 1993 includes:
1993- 3-2 agg win on Torpedo Moscow, 0-1 away, 3-1 home.
1-1 agg vs Parma, won in their ground 1-0 but lost on penalties.
1998- 4-3 agg win against P.S.G, 1-1 away 3-2 at home.
5-3 agg win SV Reid of austria, 1-2 away, 4-1 home.
0-4 agg loss vs Lokomotive Moscow.
2002- 5-3 agg win on Sturm Graz which brought us to the CL for the
first time.
in the group stage:
2-5 loss away, 3-0 win "home" (cyprus) over
Man. United
0-2 loss "home", 1-2 loss away to Leverkusen.
3-0 "home" win, 3-3 draw against Olimpiakos.
finished group 3rd with 7 points.
2003- 0-0 away, 0-4 loss "home" (bulgaria or somewhere i can't
remember) to Valencia. |

Hi Oren, and welcome to the rbkweb forum!
I remember your team well from their last CL performance, I was particularly pleased when they beat Man. U 3-0, nice job! (Even if it was a team of reserves.. )
I gather your team has lost a number of key players since then so you're not quite as strong, but I think you'll be challenging opponents for Rosenborg. As elsewhere mentioned we had a weak start to this year's league though we're picking up form now, so assuming we pass the second qualifying round I think we'll have two exciting matches ahead of us against MH. |

In comparison to last season we are probably stronger now. got some good local players as well as foreiners instead of the disappointing ones last season.
MH are the biggest player manufacturers in Israel. We have sent many players to europe: Rosenthal, Berkovic, Revivo, Benayoun, Yakubu Ayegbeny (african, now in portsmouth), Kandaurov (To Benfica some years ago), and others.
Our key player is Giovanny Rosso who played in euro2004 for Croatia. as well we have 8 Israeli internationals.
Oh yeah and our coach in the CL two years ago moved to Panathinikos last year and brought them the Double! |

Why? I just wondered since "Nano Portal" was mentioned on the site; it did seem like the Maccabi Haifa section on a bigger Israeli football website.... |

Well i would not call them popular but players like: Ørjan Berg and especially Roar Strand and Erik Hoftun are the most prominent and respected players because of thier loyalty, age and their high standard of play.
But Rosenborg does not have, in my opinion, primadonnas or a star that shines above the others. I think their main force is their tactic and their cohesiveness. That is also why mmany of the foreign players Rosemborg has bought did not have much success, becuase they could not adapt to Rosenborg's way of playing football. _________________ Sliter

I think Rosenborg have around 65% chance of going through. But first we have to knock out Sheriff Tiraspol.
Mhaifa wrote: | i heard that kardas is leaving rosenborg is it good for maccabi haifa? |
Makes no difference. Karadas was not an important player for Rosenborg (except from two goals against Inter Milan in 2002), and would probably started both matches against Maccabi Haifa on the bench. |

Exit CL.
UEFA Cup
Red Star: won 1-0 away, 0-0 home
Benfica: lost 1-0 away, won 2-1 home
Exit UEFA cup.
All in all we're pretty hard to beat on home ground, but haven't had as great success at away ground, including some spectacular losses.
Our best season was maybe 1996/97, when we met AC Milan at San Siro for the final game in the group stage and had to beat them. We won 2-1 at San Siro and entered the quarter finals, where we met Juventus: lost 2-0 away, 1-1 home.
The year after the team was actually better, and we saw some awesome results: We won 2-0 home against Real Madrid, 2-0 home against Porto and 5-1 home against Olympiakos. Unfortunately, but predictably, Real Madrid won the group. |

Let's hope that if sheriff beats us....(which they won't)
They'll MEET them
"Meat" sounds a little barbaric don't you think ? |
