"Marek has just one year left of his contract, and we can't risk that several of our key players are leaving on Bosman transfers. The chance of him extending his contract was small," Rosenborg's sporting director Erik Hoftun told the club's official website.

One year ago Sapara was close to a Besiktas deal worth 30 million NOK. Now he instead will move to the capital of Ankara while Rosenborg will receive a transfer fee far less. The exact figure however is undisclosed.

Marek Sapara will however increase his wage at Ankaragücü, who are struggling one point ahead of relegation. The Slovakian international already has left for Turkey where he will negotiate his personal deal and undergo a medical test.

The 27-year old has been a regular in the team since his 13 million NOK transfer from Ruzomberok in August 2006 as the most expensive foreigner ever in Norwegian football. He became an immediate success as he served Steffen Iversen several assisting cross balls in the title race the same season. He also proved his free-kicking skills.

The following season "Sapi" was moved to a central position, and he kept his special "Sapara role" until last year where Iversen forced him to move around on the midfield. This year Sapara most likely would have been set to play to the right or to the left.

But now his Rosenborg career is concluded:
