Already this winter the Swede more or less agreed with Rosenborg. 27 June he signed a 4-year-deal, which today was made public.

"The board this January discussed whether we should wait for him. Jönsson was such a strong candidate in this proscess, that we decided to wait until we could begin negotiations with him," Rosenborg president Terje Svendsen told rosenborg.info.

Jönsson had a clause in his expiring Stabæk contract, preventing him from signing for a new club before 1 July. But because of the World Cup break Stabæk did let him sign a few days earlier on.

The deal was kept secret due to yesterday's match between Stabæk and Rosenborg.

"Jönsson is kind of an atypical Swedish coach. Swedish coaches always have been focusing on the defence while Jönsson is genuine focused on the attacking play. So he fits very well for us," Svendsen concludes.

Jönsson completes the 2010 season at Stabæk, where he the last three years has secured gold, silver and bronze in the league. Meanwhile Nils Arne Eggen will lead Rosenborg to (hopefully) a new championship.
