The Basques intended to buy Demidov already this summer, but did never agree with Rosenborg on a transfer fee. Instead the central defender negotiated his personal terms for a contract starting in January, when he is free to leave Lerkendal on the Bosman rule.

"I also have offers from other teams, who probably are even more famous in Europe. But I choose the clubs which really want me to join them. Real Sociedad know the Russian mentality, as several Russian footballers have played there and also the league is very strong," Demidov told uefa.com.

The deal was formalised on Friday when Demidov flew in from Germany after the Leverkusen game, and completed the medical test. He has signed a contract expiring after the 2012/13 season, local newspaper El Diario Vasco reports.

"I have spent two and a half great years in Trondheim and want make a change in my life - to move to a new country, to learn a new language", Demidov explains.

Rosenborg bought Vadim Demidov from Hønefoss for 5.6 million NOK in November 2007, which actually was Knut Torbjørn Eggen's first and only transfer in his short spell as director of sports.
